So… this happened!! Reading my blog, this would probably be the first time you’ve ever seen a photo of me without my natural hair color. Well, I’m going to let you in on a little secret – I’ve had my hair dyed every color you can think of! Blue, green, purple, pink, red, blond etc… I used to be addicted to changing my hair color! I did it so much and so frequently that my hair started to deteriorate, feeling stringy & stretchy. When your hair stretches like a rubber band, something is wrong. So, I stopped. Cold turkey. For 8 years. EIGHT YEARS OF NOT DYING MY HAIR! Can you believe it? That’s a helluva long time. My born-again virgin hair has been healthy and strong ever since. Did I get tempted? Oh you betcha, I did! It’s something that crossed my mind regularly but because I dyed it so much in the past, I was nervous to jump back into it. Well, along came Garnier with their new super fun Garnier Color Styler Intense Wash-Out Color! This was the perfect opportunity to give it another go without the long-term commitment and damage risks!
I was on the fence with whether or not to do Blue Burst (blue was my favorite hair color of all!) or something a little tamer like their Bronze Attitude… but I decided to just go for it. Why not? After all, it washes out in a few washes! At first, I thought I’d whip out my hair coloring skills from my past life (I’ve had my hair professionally dyed, dyed by friends and I’ve done it myself before) so I stopped by my local beauty supply store to pick up a brush & foils. Well, as it turns out, there’s no need to complicate things. The foils didn’t help at all and just ended up being a nice place mat for my Garnier Color Styler bottle! The brush I bought? No help either. Seriously, guys, just listening to the instructions on the box and using the gloves they included was the best and easiest way to do it! Oh and don’t try to squirt it directly into your hair (just like it warns you not to do) because apparently I’m bad at listening and tried to despite the warnings and yes, it made my hair a rough texture. Just keep it simple! I did as they said and draped a towel over my shoulders. Gently squeezed a little bit of the dye right into my gloves (you don’t need much), rubbed both hands together and proceeded to massage in a thin coat, starting at the base, working it into the sections of my hair that I wanted dyed. It was THAT easy! Oh and one more important thing: just make sure you wait until your hair is completely dry before you start styling. You can use a blow dryer if you want to speed things up a bit. Once it’s dry, brush through until it’s nice and smooth again. If you make a mistake or need to remove the color sooner than expected, you can always use a little bit of oil. But I love how it looked so much that I stalled washing my hair just to make it last longer. 😉
