When I first heard about Duff Goldman’s collaboration with Godiva Chocolatier; I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Were they making cakes with Godiva chocolate in it? Chocolate cake frosting? Cake shaped chocolates? Mini chocolate cakes? 🙂 Then I found out they were cake truffles so I immediately thought, oh, like cake pops?… No, they’re not like cake pops at all. They are so different and much better. Decadent truffles in 4 delicious cake flavors – Pineapple Hummingbird Cake, Cookie Dough, Butterscotch Walnut (Duff’s favorite) and Birthday Cake (my favorite!).
Being the foodies that we are, my husband and I constantly have the Food Network playing on our TV whether we’re watching it or just having it on in the background. Duff is always so entertaining on Ace of Cakes and seemed really chill. Well, let me tell you, he’s pretty awesome in person, too. Down to earth, passionate, super funny and easy to talk to; we could have easily stayed there for hours just chatting about everything under the sun. He shared his experience working with the Godiva team, with us – details of all the flavors they tried (they started with 7!) as well as the packaging (inspired by Duff’s sketches!) and fun facts – like those huge 18 wheeler oil tankers you see on the freeway? Well, they’re not always filled with oil, some are actually full of CHOCOLATE! Like Willy Wonka in real life. How cool, right? So now I’ll be day dreaming of Godiva chocolate goodness while I’m stuck behind an oil tanker during LA traffic 😉 lol.
I also learned a lot of personal things about Duff that I had no idea about before. A friend of mine, Mish, suggested that I ask what Duff’s dream job would have been if he wasn’t in this field. When I asked him, he paused for a second and then confidently proclaimed – a member of a great rock band, not a Lamborghini driving huge rock star for the money, but in a successful, true rock band playing great music. It turns out, Duff didn’t intend on baking for the long run at all! He started his bakery with his good friends just to pay the bills and to give them the freedom to focus on their rock band, practice and take time off to tour etc. Like, the real deal!! His baking just happen to take off when The Food Network took notice of their unexpected group – a bunch of manly men baking cakes! They actually continued to secretly play in their rock band up until just a year ago, when Duff finally quit the band to focus on his cake business and career. Wow, who would’ve known!
So, being a fashion blogger an all 😀 I had to ask Duff some fashion related questions, too. His favorite brand? Puma & Burton. Go-to outfit? Board shorts and football jerseys. Fun fact? He once wore a belt made of saran wrap with a tux to present an award at a show! That, my friends, is a whole different story and will make for a pretty killer blog post with Duff in it, later this year. Stay tuned for THAT!
Now, back to the topic at hand, cake truffles. They’re officially available today, September 1st! They will make for the prettiest and yummiest gift for really any occasion – hostess, thinking of you, holidays, just because, thank you or I’m sorry 😛 ! Check them out at your nearest Godiva boutique! They will be available for purchase individually, in 8-piece keepsake boxes as pictured below ($25) or part of a 24-piece Ultimate Dessert Truffle assortment box ($50).
Special thanks to Duff, the Godiva team & Alison Brod PR.
Duff – I look forward to seeing you again and making an awesome Saran Wrap Belt How-To feature! 🙂

September 2, 2012 at 3:56 pmAwww aforable!! Straight from my hometown! I met him working backstage at a fashion show benefit and he is very cool! I found out that he dates the chick who owns the restaurant Blue moon which i believe was also featured on Food Network. They make a cute couple too!
