It’s been hard for me to decide what not to wear with this adorable H&M sports coat. I actually bought it in both this heather grey and navy – surprise, surprise. It’s so comfortable and looks great over anything. I especially love that I can wear it in the office as well. Btw, I really dislike my awkward stance in the above picture (why am I standing with my feet so far apart? Maybe it’s the cowboy’ish boots influencing me to stand like that… lol) but posted it anyway because that’s how much I’m in love with this jacket ;p C’est la vie.

The International Auto Show was in town New Years weekend and thanks to my parents, we got free tickets to go. It was exciting seeing all the new concept cars, checking out our dream cars and potential future cars. Cars, cars, cars.

    Yum!

    What To Wear

    Friend Friday: Choosing Outfits

    An Dyer's Closet

A sneak peek into my closet ;p "Organized Chaos"

    1. How do you determine what you will wear that day?
I’m quite moody and I’m very sensitive to climate changes. I usually determine what I’ll wear by my mood, the weather and of course what events/activities are planned for the day. So if it’s cold, I have to go to work and I’m exhausted from the previous day – expect to see a lot of black. If I’m in a good mood, it’s a nice day out and even though I’m going to work, I have a lunch date planned with one of my favorite people – expect to see bright colors, ruffles and a big’ol smile on my face lol 😉

    2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month, weekend?
Now, I seriously wish I was that organized… I would say I almost never plan ahead of time – even for special events like parties, holidays and weddings. For special events I usually have a general idea of what I’ll wear for example, if I bought a particular dress for such occasion, I won’t know what I’ll accessorize with (shoes, belts, jewelry, bag) until the day of. On a typical day, if I have time to lie around in bed before getting up, I’ll brainstorm ideas and looks. Most of the time, I get up, stare at my closet and if I can’t think of anything, I’ll go brush my teeth, wash my face and then go back to staring at my closet a little longer. I usually continue with this pattern, alternating between things I need to do in the morning (coffee, hair, makeup) and staring at my closet until I have a game plan. I usually zero in on one particular item whether it’s a dress, top, bottom, shoes, belt etc. and then build my look around that. I’ll admit, it’s usually shoes. The only “planning” that occurs are usually happy accidents. My wardrobe “happy accidents” occur when I put together an outfit, look in the mirror, and realize the outfit I put together is way too cute for the day’s events. I usually make a mental note (or hang all the items together and set them aside) to wear on another day where I have something planned more suitable for that look. Organized chaos, right? =D

    3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already worn so you don’t repeat?
I think that’s what’s so great about blogging… although I don’t post every single outfit I wear every day, it does help remind me what I recently wore as well as encourages me to change-up my looks, often. Aside from that, I have no real way to track my outfits other than my unreliable memory… and occasionally my husband Lol.

    4. How do you discover new combinations of items in your closet? (Trial try-ons? Hanging items together?)
I definitely try on multiple combinations every morning – trial and error. I also love flipping through fashion magazines, visiting fellow fashion blogs and surfing through lookbook.nu to get combination ideas but a lot of time this results in more shopping I shouldn’t be doing because I’ll spot something new I don’t have in my closet. Tough stuff!

    5. To streamline the process for 2011 what is one new thing you can do to cut down your dressing time?
I’m not sure there’s anything I can do and I’m not sure there’s anything I want to do about it. I’ve tried preplanning in the past and I almost always end up changing my mind when it’s time to wear the planned outfit (because I’m so moody, remember?). I think the sometimes surprisingly quick or sometimes outrageously long time it takes me to settle on a look is who I am. My husband actually brought this up the other day and even he said, although it sometimes frustrates him (especially when we’re running late to our dinner reservations), he loves that I have such a “passion for fashion” and respects it. Sweet, huh? I know, I’m a lucky girl.

    Poncho Lover

H&M Poncho & Bow Bracelet | Louis Vuitton Ribera Mm Bag & Transparent Monogram Inclusion Translucide Necklace | Forever 21 Tank, Jeggings & Ring | Steve Madden Raven Boots | Michael Kors Watch

As soon as I saw this poncho in H&M’s ad (email, magazine, online) I knew I had to have it. I absolutely love the soft fabric and chunky draped look of it. Wearing it is like wearing a big blanket (blanket = love)  so it’s perfect for the cooler weather we’ve been having in Southern California and especially when I’m feeling lazy and just want to cuddle up on the couch with my husband but have to go run errands. I ended up buying it in all three colors; heather grey, creme and navy. It’s a problem I have – buying things I like in every color available – more on that in a later post…

I apologize for being MIA for the past two weeks. A few days after Christmas, I was fiddling with my camera and pressed some button to “format” it and *poof* all my photos from the past week (yes, including Christmas) disappeared from my camera and memory card. Devastating. I lost tons of blog-worthy outfit shots but most importantly, all my holiday photos with friends and family. Luckily for me, lots of the photos were captured by others but it’s just not the same as coming from your own camera and views *sigh*.

Anyway, among other things, my husband gave me these amazing Vera Wang Lavender Label “Fiona” boots for Christmas. I’d been eyeing them for some time now so once I tore open into the gorgeous lavender (literally!) box, my mind started racing with myriad of ideas for outfits I had been stocking up subconsciously. I wore the heck out of these boots after Christmas but like I mentioned, I lost most of those photos due to my brainless actions. Oh well, I guess that gives me the excuse to wear them with reckless abandon since none of my previous outfits in them are floating around the internet yet.
