Beat the Heat Summer Beauty with Ulta

An Dyer

We’re smack-dab in the middle of Summer right now and it’s been hotter than ever for us here in LA. In the area where I live near the Valley, it’s been as high as 99ºF this past month! Because of this sweltering weather this season, I’ve learned a trick or two on beating the heat when it comes to makeup and I’ve partnered up with Ulta & People StyleWatch to share my tips with you guys! Follow along for my beauty tricks & details below!

My eyelids are prone to eyeshadow creasing so I’ve tried my fair share of shadow bases and primers. After multiple attempts, tests, failures and successes, my ultimate favorite, absolute holy grail, has been the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer! A trick I’ve learned is setting my eyeshadow primer with a dusting of a neutral shadow like Coconut Cream from the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette! This also makes blending in your colors even smoother! For my liner, I always use a pencil in my waterline and liquid liner on my lash line and have found that Urban Decay’s All Nighter Eye Liner & Smashbox’s Limitless Liquid Liner Pen have been the best budge proof combination for that perfect wing.

Ulta Eyemakeup

I usually love Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz because it’s quick, easy and beautiful on but if I want some serious staying power, my go-to is Anasasia Beverly Hill’s Dipbrow Pomade (it’s also amazing for a workout and I’ve heard of people even wearing it in the pool!). I wore it in Ash Brown and applied it using their #12 brush & spooly duo. Then I brush Eyeko’s Brow Gel on top which is my ultimate fave for keeping my brow hairs in place! I finished off my eye look with Ardell’s Glamour Wispies Black Lashes applied with Duo’s Dark Lash Adhesive.

I like to apply my face makeup after my eyes because I always have eyeshadow fallout on my cheeks and this just makes cleaning it up so much easier. Along with the sweltering heat comes brutal UV Rays so don’t forget your SPF! I love Sun Bum’s Sunscreen Face Stick SPF 30 because it’s so easy to apply, smells lovely and doesn’t feel greasy on. It also wears great under makeup! It might just be in my head but I feel like my pores are more visible when it’s hot out (maybe they’re trying to breathe!) so a foundation primer is a must for me. Plus, my skin can get oily later in the day, making foundation move around so I absolutely adore the Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer from Maybelline! It goes on so smooth, keeping my face makeup right where it belongs.

Ulta Face Makeup

I tried L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation a couple weeks ago, applying it with Real Technique’s Expert Face Brush and instantly fell madly in love with it! True to its name, it leaves a matte finish, staying put throughout the day – it’s definitely my must have for busy long days and humid weather! For my blemishes, I use the new Smashbox 24 Hour CC Spot Concealer because that stuff does NOT budge (in fact, make sure you blend it in immediately because it dries/sets crazy fast!) I brighten up under my eyes with Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer and also use it to highlight the middle of my forehead, bridge of my nose and my chin.

After warming up my skin with a light dusting of the Nvey Eco Nourishing Bronzer, I set and contoured with Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Contour Kit, using the Real Techniques Flat Contour Brush. I love how well Nvey Eco’s Powder Blush stays on so I added just a touch on the apples of my cheeks in the shade Blushing Sunset. For the ultimate Summer glow, I lightly dusted the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone all over my cheekbones, above my brows & browbone as well as the tip of my nose, cupid’s bow and chin.

Lips Hair Highlight Ulta

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick is famous for it’s amazing staying power but just to make sure my lip color really stays put in the heat, I layered it over Ulta’s Automatic Lip Liner in the shade Flesh. Since the Too Faced Lipstick is a very nude Nude, I dabbed on just a touch of my favorite Color Elixir Lip Color from Maybelline in Breathtaking Apricot to brighten up the look. I love beachy waves year round but it’s definitely an ideal Summer hairstyle because it still looks good as the curls loosen up throughout the day! For my hair, I used the CHI ARC Automatic Rotating Curler with the clip closed to create these soft effortless waves.
