Take Care of Yourself

Like most people, my anxiety has been at an all time high these past few months. With everything that’s going on in the world, it’s so important to remember to also take care of yourself, while you’re helping everyone else, too. A part of learning, growing and taking care of myself has been sharing my truth, like I did in my last post, and the feedback I received was amazing. It can be a painful process and make you feel so vulnerable but it’s also incredibly therapeutic and comforting when you share stories you’ve kept in for so long. More people than I ever expected to, reached out and opened up to me about similar encounters they’ve had, as well as the lessons they’ve learned, and how they’ve grown. I learned so much about my friends and family that I didn’t know before. Many of my industry friends also shared their experiences, which were so eye opening. If you want to read some of those, I’ve included a few here:

Kristen Turner shares a look into what high school was like for her as a Black girl attending a predominantly white private school in Houston, Texas.

Elizabeth Keene opens up about how it was growing up biracial, as well as her experience seeing her mother be racially profiled and wrongfully arrested.

Grasie Mercedes describes a very recent, upsetting interaction with a police officer.

Taye Hansberry gives us a peak into her family history, and what it has been like as a Black woman in the Influencer world (part 2 and 3 here).

Ty Alexander recounts the first time she was called the N word.

Genesis Butler opens up about her cousin who was killed by police in 2015, as well as racism she’s faced as a young child.

Have you read, or shared your own stories recently? Was it therapeutic for you, too? Remember, take care of yourself.

Xox,
An Dyer
