Dress Like an American Girl Doll Day

Alexia Admor Jacki Plaid 3/4 Sleeve Blazer Dress | Brahmin Medium Asher in Coconut Milk Melbourne | Hermes Hapi Wrapped Bracelet | Louis Vuitton Monogram Inclusion Heart Necklace | Ted & Muffy Freia Suede Lace Up Over The Knee Boots | Vintage White-body Pleasant Company Samantha Parkington Doll wearing her Buster Brown School Dress with her Plaid Cape and Gaiters Set

In honor of #DressLikeAnAG Day, I dressed up in this Samantha Parkington inspired look! Her Winter Collection featuring the Plaid Cape and Gaiters with her Elegant Hat and Muff set was always one of my favorite catalog spreads when I was growing up, and any time I’ve seen black, blue and green plaid, blackwatch tartan prints, I’d think of her and this iconic look.

A year ago, I didn’t even know millennial adult collectors existed, and just last May while I was ordering my husband’s goddaughter her birthday gift (her very first American Girl doll!), I casually mentioned to him how I had one I loved when I was little, and made a joke that I couldn’t wait to be the old lady with a house full of dolls one day! Chris didn’t even skip a beat and immediately replied, “Why do you have to wait? Why not now?” He promptly ordered me my first doll as an adult, the modern version “Beforever” Samantha Parkington! I also brought my mom to our local American Girl store location here in LA shortly after that, it was a pop-up at the time, and bought myself the rerelease of Molly McIntire. Molly and Samantha were my dream dolls growing up! I later found @5hensandacockatiel on Instagram (who created this fun holiday!), fell down the American Girl adult doll collector rabbit hole, and eventually made a dedicated account just for my doll collection, @dollcoveter.

I’m so grateful to find this incredible #AGIG community of adult collectors, and to have an amazing supportive husband!

Did you have any American Girl dolls growing up? Are you collecting anything fun you didn’t expect to before?
