SO COLD – obviously. You know how you sometimes have to pack for traveling in a really cold area? Yeah. Well, for me, it felt like it was 10x colder than I expected. Don’t get me wrong, I love snowboarding and I’ve traveled to areas that were negative degrees (hello Korea at -11 °F) but it’s a completely different story when packing and dressing for NYFW (btw I’m not Korean, I’m Vietnamese who happened to have had a long layover in Korea in the midst of Winter many years back… now, moving on…). Even after being there, or because I was there, it boggles my mind how many girls were able to rock bare legs and skirts or dresses in such weather. I could not. Let’s be real – shit is COLD YO! I later realized those girls (many friends of mine) were raised in crazy cold areas and were used to it – us SoCal babes, don’t be fooled. I spent a majority of the time trying to hold my composure while my husband was second guessing our travel plans with less than stellar weather forecasts. Luckily for me, I tried my best to blindly plan accordingly. Who wears UGG boots to NYFW?! I do. HELL YES I DID! These boots were my saving grace during this fashion week and I’m so glad I decided, at the very last minute, to bring them along. I’m so thankful that I surrendered to function (sort of) over fashion. Had I not, this post would have never happened. I mean… seriously. I kept it real. If you saw me with bare legs during this fashion week – I’ll tell you right now, I wore THREE LAYERS of ice skating tights. Yep. Not just any tights, I ordered the serious ice skating tights. LIFE SAVERS! I even wore them (at least one pair) underneath my jeans/pants when I didn’t go bared legged.  After enduring this trip, I plan to post a packing guide for those of us who are less acclimated to such weather for next FW fashion week 😉 Here, I paired jeans (layered with tights) underneath a super cute Desigual coat. Who could resist a coat covered in hearts?! LOVE! Literally!

I can’t wait to share some of my shots during the Desigual show, itself, coming soon 🙂 after I finish my outfit posts. Are you lucky enough (or not) to live in this kind of weather normally? How to do you bear with it?

I’m back from my short NYFW trip and finally settling in – what a week it’s been! I’m so excited to share my fashion week posts with all of you so to kick it off, these are a few relaxing shots from my room at YOTEL New York during an otherwise hectic trip. It was so nice to come back to the YOTEL every night and wind down after running around all over the city between shows and meetings. I also adored how bright the rooms were, making them feel more spacious even though they were cozy. They’re known for their intuitive design and use of space which was so helpful when you’re traveling with 3 check-in’s and 4 carry ons! I was surprised with how much room we still had to walk around even though I brought so much luggage. I loved their fresh, modern design and ambiance. I also really appreciated the stunning floor to ceiling windows and how much natural light there was – perfect for my selfies 😉 and these photos, too. YOTEL New York was definitely a pleasant change from the places I’m used to staying in NYC.

By the way, how great is this view?!

    Facemaker

    BSO Images_TheFace2_KeyArt_2014-01-23

Are you a Facemaker? Facemakers are those involved with turning someone into a supermodel. Supermodels work with stylists, photographers, journalists, bloggers and designers that each have a hand in molding them into who they become as a supermodel. I had the fun opportunity of participating in an interview with the cast of The Face and chat about Fashion Week & life in the industry in general. When discussing advice and tips, Modeltestant, Isabelle Bianchi said, “You need to go out and get it yourself so I think being a proactive model is a huge part.” She expressed how she and her fellow Modeltestants can’t expect to be successful in their industry by sitting back and hoping their agents would get them there. It’s imperative to put in the work and go out there and get it. I loved this! I completely agree and think it’s so true and can be applied to any industry. What makes me a Facemaker is my drive, passion and determination to succeed. I’ve attended NYFW the past few years but it’s always been in September for the Spring/Summer shows. Having a habit of making up excuses for myself, I’ve repeatedly dismissed the idea of going this time of year because of the weather, limited PTO/Vacation Time at work or that I can’t relate to the Fall/Winter shows living here in sunny LA. None of this is valid nor true. The weather is a minor obstacle. I have plenty of PTO time at work. I absolutely LOVE the Fall/Winter collections – layering is something I wish I could do MORE of here in LA! This season, I was determined not to skip F/W Fashion Week again and made that a reality by diligently working, planning and preparing for it. It was so inspiring for me to hear all the Modeltestants’ stories and feeling that passion for success behind all the Facemakers; host, Nigel Barker, Executive Producer and Supermodel Coach, Naomi Campbell, and Supermodel Coaches Anne V & Lydia Hearst.

Valentine’s day is right around the corner and I haven’t even thought about what to wear or do yet! This look would have been appropriate if I hadn’t already worn it this past weekend ;). Don’t you hate when that happens? It wasn’t all a waste, though, because it was Lunar New Years when I rocked this outfit and red is the luckiest color for the holiday! Now I just need to think of another cute festive look to wear… What are your Valentine’s day plans?
