Vegan Skincare Routine

Last October, Chris and I began transitioning to a vegan diet, and as we were making our grocery list and finding replacements where necessary, it got me thinking about other areas of our lives like toiletries and skincare. I was so happy to find that many of my personal favorite brands have vegan-friendly products, making the switch seamless, and some were completely vegan already!

Makeup Remover & Cleanser: I starting using Dermalogica’s Precleanse to remove my makeup, and immediately questioned why I waited so long. It gently removes every bit of baked and caked in makeup; even stubborn eyelash glue! I also switched to using Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel and Daily Microfoliant, and love how fresh and clean my face feels afterwards.

Toner & Mists: After I remove my makeup and cleanse my face, I always apply Pixi’s Glow Tonic and Hydrating Milky Mist. I’ve been using both of these for more than five years now, and recently found out that Pixi’s Hydrating Milky Collection is 100% Vegan! I also recently started using Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist for added hydration. Plus, it smells so yummy!

Serums: During the day, I’ll apply Snow Fox Skincare’s Cucumber Recovery Serum which feels so cooling and plumps my skin. In the evenings, I’ve been reaching for OLEHENRIKSEN’s Glow Cycle Retin-ALT Power Serum which contains a natural retinol alternative targeting fine lines and wrinkles, while also targeting dark spots and brightening.

Oils: I recently did a Spring photoshoot for Diana Madison Beauty’s Glowtopia Face Oil where we applied the prickly pear seed beauty oil on our faces, underneath our makeup, as well as across our décolletage. When I came home afterwards, my husband literally stopped me in the hallway just to compliment my glowing skin! Obviously I had to add it to my skincare routine. This soothing oil has been amazing with my eczema, too!

Moisturizers: In the daytime, I’ve been using boscia’s Chia Seed Moisture Cream, this super-rich cream with chia seed oil prevents dehydration, which I follow up with Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40. I love OLEHENRIKSEN’s Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Crème in the evenings because it always leaves my complexion looking brighter and clearer the next morning. When I’m masking, I’ll apply Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer afterwards instead, for lightweight long-lasting moisture. I also just tried Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow and love the blurring effect this soft focus primer gives. I’ve been wearing it even without makeup for smooth, glowy skin!

Eyecream: I’m obsessed with Bliss’ Ex-Glow-Sion Eye Cream. The light formula has an iridescent sheen that brightens the appearance of dark circles, for a healthy radiance!

Lips: I’ve been a longtime fan of Kopari’s Coconut Lip Glossy, and appreciate that their Coconut Lip Scrubby is packaged in the same handy tube! I also recently tried Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Lip Pop, and love its subtle hint of color. This 3 in 1 scrub to balm also conveniently smooths while it hydrates!

Breakouts: I had a few favorite acne spot treatments but only one of them is vegan; Tarte’s Blemish Bully! This salicylic acid blend calms redness while unclogging pores. If I have a larger breakout area, I love applying GLAMGLOW’s SUPERMUD Charcoal Instant Treatment Mask all over my face for a deep clarifying treatment. This charcoal mud mask tingles and visibly clears pores as it sets.

Masks: I love following up a clarifying mud treatment with a hydrating mask, like Snow Fox Skincare’s Arctic Breeze Rescue Mask or GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD Hydrating Treatment Mask! I also recently tried boscia’s Cactus Water Peel-off Mask which was so cooling and hydrating, not to mention, super fun to apply and peel off after!

Tools: Kitsch Spiral Hair Ties are perfect for gently holding my hair together while I’m going through my skincare routine. I like to store them on the stems of this pink faux orchid plant that I bought years ago at Ikea; don’t the colors blend in perfectly? I also just tried this Anisa Beauty Cleansing Brush that features 100% cruelty-free synthetic fibers, and really like the deeper clean and gentle exfoliation. Oh, and I love how amazing chilled facial rollers and gua sha’s feel, so I always store mine in my mini beauty fridge, along with my serums, moisturizers and masks. Did you know that storing your beauty products in the refrigerator can help them last longer?

Photos by yours truly.

My next vegan challenge will be my makeup routine; I’ve found a replacement for almost everything that wasn’t vegan already, except for a pencil eyeliner that doesn’t smudge! Do you have any favorite vegan beauty products? Share your recommendations in the comments below, and I’ll check them out!

P.s. Please note that brands might change their product formulas over time, so if the packaging doesn’t clearly label the product as “vegan”, consider reviewing the ingredients list and/or contacting the brand directly for your own due diligence. Don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know if any of these products have changed, as I would want to know, too, and would be happy to amend my post!
