Thrilled to finally reveal a full look at our beautiful dream kitchen!
We originally bought this house just over 2 years ago, Spring 2021, with plans to completely remodel the interior. As I shared in my project kick-off post, we loved the location, size of the house and curb appeal, but the existing interior style definitely wasn’t us. What we initially thought would take 6 months to DIY a kitchen update, turned into two years full of design changes, doubling our budget, bringing on a construction and design firm, and delays on everyone’s parts, including ours. With supply chain issues and scheduling conflicts, while grieving not just one, but two unexplainably painful losses in our families, 2022 was *a lot* to say the least. Reflecting back, it’s amusing to think we had grand plans of DIY-ing this. Granted our initial design was much simpler then, we eventually came to terms with the fact that in reality, I’ve been incredibly limited physically ever since a neck/shoulder injury a few years ago, and my husband was way too swamped with work and later helping family after the loss of my father in-law, for us to take on something of this size. I commend anyone who takes on a feat like this on their own! For us, we had to consider the added costs, but also accept what we were capable of realistically doing ourselves within a reasonable amount of time. We ultimately made the decision to bring in professionals and after everything was said and done, it was definitely the right decision for us, the size of our project, and what we wanted. While the last couple years have been a rollercoaster, I’m relieved that we’re finally done with this particular project, and can take some time to settle in and soak it all up, and just breathe while we recoup. There are plenty of other smaller updates we want to do anyway that are much more reasonable to take on ourselves, at our own pace. It really never ends lol!
Since we’re still trying to recoup and save up again from all of this chaos, we haven’t purchased any new furniture or much decor yet, so the counter stools and most of the decor items you see in these photos were all existing from our old apartments. They still work well in this space, though, and we are so happy with how it all turned out!! I’ve linked all of our decor items in the image captions, and here are the other remodeling related details we’re often asked:
