    Top 5: CLAY MASKS

    Top 5 Mud Masks Post

Happy Top 5… Thursday? A little later than usual this week 😉 but today we’re talking about some of the best clay masks! There’s certainly quite a few options on the market however these are ones with varying purposes, intensities and different price ranges, that I absolutely love! Clay masks are great for all skin types but especially for those on the oily-side and/or acne-prone, as clay does an amazing job at absorbing oil & impurities. Follow along below to read why each of these are in my skincare arsenal.

Pixi By Petra Glow Mud Mask – This mineral-rich mask is formulated with kaolin and sea salt to purify, as well as aloe vera and ginseng to balance. You leave it on for 15 minutes to let the mask set & dry. This is one of those clay masks that you can visually see the impurities being drawn out of your skin while the mask dries on your face, so be ready for some kinda gross, but SUPER satisfying 😛 oily spots to appear as the mask sets! I love how refreshed and clean my face feels after using it. Oh and Pixi is 100% cruelty-free, yay!

Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask – A multitasking treatment, this mask can be used as a purifying mask, spot treatment or as a daily deep cleanser. It’s formulated with Fresh’s proprietary ingredient, Umbrian clay, which has been around for centuries and was even used in ancient Italy! I’ve actually been using their Umbrian Clay Purifying Facial Toner daily, the past couple weeks, and love combining the two together for a DIY at-home spa treatment. By the way, it’s formulated without Parabens or Phthalates!

TULA Exfoliating Treatment Mask – TULA is actually a newer brand to me that was created by Dr. Roshini Raj who’s a board certified gastroenterologist and internist with a medical degree from NYU among many other accolades! Using her extensive knowledge, she applied probiotic technology to create a skincare line that balances your skin similar to how probiotics balance your insides. I’ve been loving all the products I’ve tried from the line so far, especially this Exfoliating Treatment Mask! It’s formulated with lactic acid and Bentonite clay to gently peel away impurities as well as plant-based, biodegradable beads that release hydrating nutrients. It leaves your skin feeling clean, balanced and firm! TULA is also 100% cruelty-free 🙂 and formulated without phthalates, parabens, mineral oil, petrolatum, propylene glycol, or gluten.

Lumene Glow Reveal 60 Second Facial – This is a facial treatment that contains Arctic Cloudberry and Sea Buckthorn oils as well as kaolin clay and is a great option when you don’t have a lot of time! It just melts onto your skin when you apply it and you only need to leave it on for 1 minute to effectively detoxify skin and remove impurities. What I also love is that it gently exfoliates and has a lovely, soothing Rosemary scent that’s very calming and definitely gives your skin that spa-quality facial feel! It’s formulated without parabens and formaldehyde donors and Lumene is 100% cruelty free!

L’Oreal Pure-Clay Masks – L’Oreal released 3 different versions of their Pure-Clay Masks; Purify & Mattify, Detox & Brighten, and Exfoliate & Refine Pores. I’ve used them on different days and even all together, in different sections of my face, but my favorite is the green Purify & Mattify Pure-Clay Mask! It contains Eucalyptus which gives you that bright, refreshing, minty feel. After applying it for 10 minutes as instructed, the mask will set & dry. It does a great job at unclogging pores and making your skin look less shiny/oily. When I massage and rinse it off, my skin feels soft and supple, not dry at all, which I absolutely love! It also is not formulated with any formaldehyde.

Do you enjoy using clay masks, too? What are your favorites?

    Transitioning to Fall

With Autumn right around the corner, it’s time to make that transition out of Summer. I’m not the biggest fan of the Summer heat anyway and I usually favor Fall but the thought of this year flying by so quickly is daunting! On the cusp of every season, I find myself with clothing items I didn’t get a chance to wear. Since the weather can be iffy (the beginning of Fall here in LA can be hotter than some of our Summer days), my favorite way to transition from Summer to Fall is with accessories. I styled this light jersey dress with chic accessories in Autumn colors like shades of browns and rose golds, to balance out the look for a more season appropriate ensemble. The ribbed dress was light enough to keep me cool while my accessories warmed up the look for a more Fall feel while still suitable for our weather!

How will you be transitioning to Fall?

One of the most common things you’ll see me wear are dresses and bows on my toes! My dress collection could very well take place of my entire wardrobe and rightfully so – I mean, what is easier than throwing a dress on and going about your day? Dresses are definitely my go-to when I’m in a rush and don’t know what to wear. There’s no worrying if your top and bottom pieces go together and whether to tuck or untuck etc. You’re practically guaranteed to look put together with very little thought!

    Top 5: DRY SHAMPOOS

Happy TUESDAY! You know what that means 😀 well, aside from the obvious title lol! Today I’m sharing my top 5 dry shampoos. I consider myself a pro at this since I was an early adopter – my hair is the type that, despite being washed in the morning, will be oily by the same evening. I use dry shampoos daily (& yes it’s important to use a strong clarifying shampoo to cleanse your scalp of any dry shampoo buildup over time!) I’ve tried all the most popular dry shampoos as well as many unknown brands and have found a few different types that I regularly keep on my beauty counter.

Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo – This dry shampoo was such a trip when I first tried it! The non-aerosol packaging still manages to “spray” out the product which makes it a great option for traveling and for those who prefer to avoid aerosol products. You give the bottle a good shake, turn the cap to expose the nozzle and squeeze – just like that, a light mist of product comes out! I do find that it struggles with my oily roots but it does an amazing job and refreshing the length of my hair – reducing the clumpy oily mess my strands turn into. The scent is also very soothing and calming, almost spa like, containing 25 pure flower and plant essences!

Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender – I’ve mentioned Redken’s dry shampoo a couple times before and still love it just as much. It sprays on clear, with no white residue and does an amazing job at reviving my oily roots while leaving a nice, matte finish. The product seems to be easily build-able as I’ve layered it on when needed and it does not clump up or leave my hair feeling sticky at all. It also smells amazing, without being overpowering – I love the clean, fresh scent!

Not Your Mother’s Unscented Clean Freak Dry Shampoo – I first tried this product when StyleWatch sent it to me during the holidays and quickly fell in love with it! I like to pair it with their DĂ©jĂ  Vu Do Style Extender (which does a crazy good job by the way)! The two products combined can keep my oily mane under control for up to 4 days after washing! It’s also unscented which is rare in the dry shampoo world, so it’s perfect for anyone who doesn’t like fragranced hair products or when you’re wearing a nice perfume and don’t want any distractions.

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo For Brunettes I was pretty shocked to see the not so great reviews when I was looking for the product link but after reading through them, I can sort of understand. This is a brunette dry shampoo that uses a tinted powder (as opposed to a white powder). I personally love that it sprays a colored powder and use it for anytime my hair is already styled; curled, up in a ponytail or updos and I don’t want to have to brush it out and mess up all the work I’ve done styling it! You do have to be careful as it could get on anything you’re spraying it in the direction of (walls, closets, clothing etc) and after a while, buildup at the nozzle can cause it to drip onto your hands or face (I’ve definitely ruined my makeup by accident). Always take care to shield your face and watch what direction you spray it in. Otherwise, the product itself gets the job done without any obvious white residues or a need to brush through it (though you can, you just don’t have to)!

Keratin Complex Volumizing Dry Shampoo Lift Powder This little guy is amazingly powerful. Not only does it instantly control any signs of oiliness, but it adds a crazy amount of volume to your hair. I love that the powder itself feels cooling when applied and the brush does a great job and distributing the product where you want it. My only gripe is that the product is a loose powder that’s completely exposed when you open it which can get a little messy – it would be perfect for traveling if there was some kind of sifter. CORRECTION: You don’t have to open it to expose the powder, the brush dispenses it on its own! Otherwise, this is another great option for anyone wanting to avoid aerosol products that’s super effective!

What are your favorite dry shampoos?
